The Spinney, Aberlour
- Howard met us on arrival and gave us a detailed tour, & explanation of all we needed to know really, operation of appliances, where everything was, and a bit about the area. Settled in quickly and easily, and thanks to the homely feel of the Spinney, we soon made ourselves at home (including the dog, who occupied pride of place in front of the wood-burning fire). The Dalmunach Distilley located a couple of hundred metres away is impressive with it glass fronted still room illuminated at night. We sighted deer along the Speyside way, plenty of pheasants around, and had regular visits from red squirrel and plenty of birdlife to the garden / feeders. The Spinney was comfortable and spacious for four of us and a dog, for a week, and the upstairs room which we didn't use was absolutely huge too - two single beds but cavernous. The welcome pack was a surprise and was most welcome (although being picky could have better showcased some of the local area and produce) that's meant as a recommendation rather than being ungracious, as it was still a very nice touch. Likewise I would comment that some of the internal pictures could perhaps do with updating to showcase the remarkable and picturesque surroundings which are largely uninhabited, unspoilt and simply stunning. Iconic Distilleries, Hills / Mountains, Wilderness, Wildlife, Forest, the North Sea Coast (especially Spey Bay), and traditional fishing and local villages, the River Spey, and endless walking opportunities on a network of pathways / walks are all either on the doorstep or within easy reach. If you are searching for late night entertainment and clubs, this is not the location for you. If you are more comfortable with a getaway bolthole, and clear starlit sky's by night (weather permitting), then the Spinney will probably tick most of your requirements. Judging by comments in the visitor book, its been enjoyed by all who have stayed there and left comments.
